Both FLBC teams arrived safely in Joplin, MO on Monday night. After a light practice Tuesday morning for both teams, the men’s team played their opening round game in the afternoon. Facing off against Southwestern Adventist University from Keene, TX, the Conquerors got off to a fast start to lead by as much as 10 points early in the first half. SWAU closed to within 4 at the half. From there, they continued to push ahead, leading the Conquerors by as many as 11 points with less than 10 minutes remaining in the second half. At that point, the Conquerors refused to quit and slowly whittled away the deficit to close to within 1 with under a minute to play. Unfortunately, they were unable to convert an opportunity to win or tie on the last possession with less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock, losing a heart-breaker in the opening round. Both teams played well, and the competition was fierce. It was a fun game to watch, even if the outcome was not what we would have preferred. The men’s team enjoyed amazing support from our women’s team as well as many friends and family who made trip to support the teams. FLBC was well represented, both on and off the court and it was a nice opening day of the tournament.

Today, the men will play their next game today (Wednesday) at 1:45pm against Champion Christian College from Hot Springs, AR. The game will not be available on livestream. Meanwhile, the Conqueror women will open tournament play at 6pm today, also against Champion Christian College. The location and start time of this game was changed, and will now be available to view via livestream at http://occambassadors.com/inside-athletics/watch-live. Tune in to cheer on the women’s team as they try to pull the upset against the higher seeded team from Champion Christian. Also, check in tomorrow for another ACCA tournament update from Joplin, and thanks for supporting FLBC Basketball!
